[Advanced Settings] Dialog Box ([Quality] Tab)

The driver draws lines, circles, etc. in the printer driver and then sends the finished image to the printer.
This can be slower than UFR II Mode and may result in more data being sent to the printer.

[Rendering Rate]

Enables you to set the image rasterizing method for converting color documents to grayscale documents.

[1 BPP]

Replaces all parts other than white with black for characters and fine lines, and prints at high speed.

[1 BPP [Enhanced]]

Expresses gray gradation as halftones and prints at high speed.

[24 BPP]

Takes longer to print than [1 BPP] and [1 BPP [Enhanced]], but prints very high quality documents.

[Resolution]

Enables you to select the print resolution.

[Gradation]

Sets the gradation for printing halftone images. [High 2] uses finer gradations than [High 1], and prints very smooth gradations.

[Halftones] (Color)

Enables you to specify dither patterns for representing halftones (areas between dark areas and light areas).

[+][-]

[Printer Default]

Uses the printer setting.

[Resolution]

Uses a dither pattern that gives priority to resolution. Prints contours smoothly. This setting is suitable for printing general documents and graphics (text and diagrams) etc.

[Gradation]

Uses a dither pattern that gives priority to gradation. This setting is suitable for printing smooth gradations.

[Error Diffusion]

Uses a dither pattern that gives priority to error diffusion, which is excellent for representing subtlety. This setting is suitable for printing small text and fine lines.

The following halftone processing settings are applied independently to text, graphic, and image data.

Characters (text) and lines (graphics) in printable colors are printed as black.

Select [Finishing] tab → [Advanced Settings] → [Always Rasterize at Host] → [Off]

[Halftones] (Black and White)

Enables you to specify dither patterns for representing halftones (areas between dark areas and light areas).

[+][-]

[Printer Default]

Uses the printer setting.

[Error Diffusion]

Uses a dither pattern that gives priority to error diffusion, which is excellent for representing subtlety. This setting is suitable for printing small text and fine lines.

[None [Solid]]

[Host Side Rasterization]

Specifies if image data rasterization is performed by the host computer rather than the printer. This enables you to print clearer images, but slows down the processing speed.

[Auto]

Host side rasterization is set automatically.

[On]

Enables host side rasterization.

[Off]

Disables host side rasterization.

Functions that cannot be used with this function: [Quality] tab → [Advanced Settings] → [Graphics Mode] → [Raster Mode]

[Get Calibration Information When Printing]

Obtains calibration information from the printer each time you output a document.

[Toner Save]

Thins out the print data to save toner.

Functions that cannot be used with this function: [Toner Density] → [Adjust]

[Toner Density]

Enables you to adjust the toner density. This function is useful when you want to save toner, and to adjust the toner density when printing bar codes. If [Details] is displayed, you can adjust the density and perform fine adjustment of the density of each color in the [Toner Density Details] dialog box.

If you select [Printer Default], you may get an unintended print result depending on the setting at the printer. For example, setting [Printer Default] may result in lighter output than setting [-1 [Light]].

Depending on the printer model you are using, if [Store] or [Hold] is selected for [Output Method], you cannot perform fine adjustment of toner density in [Details].

Functions that cannot be used with this function: [Toner Save] → [On]

[Toner Density Adjustment]

Enables you to set the toner density of each color. If you select [On] and click [Details], you can adjust the toner densities of the colors [Cyan], [Magenta], [Yellow], and [Black] using the sliders.

Functions that cannot be used with this function: [Quality] tab → [Advanced Settings] → [Toner Save]

[Toner Density Fine Adjustment]

Enables you to adjust the toner density by tonal range. If you select [On] and click [Details], you can adjust the toner densities of the tonal ranges [High], [Medium], and [Low] using the sliders. You can also adjust the toner densities by entering numbers.

[Advanced Smoothing]

Creates smooth contours in text and lines, and prints smooth gradations. [Smooth 2] performs a stronger smoothing process than [Smooth 1].

[Toner Volume Adjustment]/[Toner Volume Correction]

Enables you to select the method for toner volume adjustment.

[Printer Default]

Uses the printer setting.

[Normal]

Uses the standard amount of toner.

[Gradation Priority]

Uses the optimum amount of toner for documents that contain many graphics or computer graphics which include gradations.

[Text Priority]

Uses the optimum amount of toner for documents that contain mainly text.

[Line Control]

Improves the reproducibility of text and lines. Select [Resolution Priority] to give priority to resolution, and [Gradation Priority] to give priority to gradation.

[Sharpness]

Enables you to adjust the sharpness of the contours of images.

[Sharpness (Photo)]

Sets the processing method for edges of low resolution images. Processes that can be set vary for each printer model.

[Accelerated Image Processing]

Enables you to specify the extent of high speed processing to be used. However, higher processing speeds can lead to loss of printing quality.

[Density Fine Adjustment]

Enables you to adjust the print density for small-sized text and thin lines. This function is useful for correcting "cracks" in text and lines.

Required condition:

Select [Quality] tab → [Advanced Settings] dialog box →[Output Adjustment Mode] → [Off]

Select [Quality] tab → [Advanced Settings] dialog box → [Resolution] → [1200 dpi]

[Compressed Image Data Processing]

Enables you to select the print processing method to be used when printing the compressed image data.

Functions that cannot be used with this function:

[Quality] tab → [Advanced Settings] → [Graphics Mode] → [Raster Mode]

[Quality] tab → [Advanced Settings] → [CanoFine] (when [Compressed Image Data Processing] → [By Device] is selected)

[Auto]

Automatically selects the optimum print processing method.

[By Host]

Decompresses the compressed image data at the host.

[By Device]

Decompresses the compressed image data at the device.

This normally enables printing at high speed.

[Process Images Collectively]

Enables you to combine detailed image data at the host.

[Gray Compensation]

Enables you to reliably print gray and black data (R=G=B) in gray or black.

[Gradation Smoothing]

Prints transitions between colors in gradations smoothly. [Smooth 2] performs a stronger smoothing process than [Smooth 1].

[Image Compression]

Enables you to adjust the print data compression ratio when sending print data to the printer. You can give priority to images or print speed.

[Print Diagonal Lines at High Speed]

Reduces the processing time when printing diagonal lines. As a result, gaps between diagonals in diagrams may stand out. If this happens, turn this function off.

[Image Compression Optimization]

Switches the print data compression method when sending it to the printer.

[Special 1 BPP Mode]

Reduces the size of the data to be printed.

Required condition:

Select [Quality] Tab-[Advanced Settings]-[Graphics Mode]-[UFR II Mode]

Select [Quality] Tab-[Advanced Settings]-[Rendering Rate]-[1 BPP]

Select [Finishing] Tab-[Advanced Settings]-[Always Rasterize at Host]-[Off]

[Output Adjustment Mode]

Switches the print resolution between 600 x 600 dpi and 600 x 400 dpi.

[Width Adjustment]

Adjust the thickness of specific objects such as text and lines.

[Trapping]

Performs an overlapping process at the borders between text or graphics and the background to prevent white lines around the edge portions of the text or graphics. When you select [On], click [Details] to set the trapping width and density.

Trapping is ineffective if the density of characters or graphics is light.

[Adjust Toner Volume Used for Color Printing]

By adjusting the amount of toner when printing in color, you can prevent too much toner being used and inhibit the following printing faults.

Toner spattering on dark areas of images

Afterimages of dark text or lines

Toner fixing errors in low temperature environments

Darkening when images printed on transparencies are projected

Bleed-through when copying 2-sided originals

[Off]

Print with the normal amount of toner.

[Level 1]

Slightly adjusts (reduces) the amount of toner in areas of strong color when printing.

[Level 2]

Adjusts (reduces) the amount of toner overall when printing.

[Grayscale Conversion]

Select a method for converting color print data to grayscale.

[Use Driver Grayscale Conversion When B&W Printing]

If [Black and White] is selected for [Color Mode] in the [Basic Settings]/[Quality] sheet, printing is performed giving the printer driver grayscale conversion priority over the conversion of the application. Using this function, you can improve the image quality when printing color images in black and white.

[CanoFine]

Automatically adjusts the contrast and color balance of images to print distinct images. This function is useful for correcting dark photographs so that they are clear and vivid. When you select [On], click [Details] to configure detailed settings.

[Single-page Batch Processing]

Processes multiple bitmaps on a page as a single data item. Select this check box to print rotated images, or images with shapes cut out of them.

[Enhanced Saturation]

Emphasizes color intensity when processing.

[Pattern Position Correction]

Corrects the position of tile patterns.

[Pattern Resolution]

Specifies the resolution used to draw tile patterns.
