Automatically Setting the Options

If you are using a device that supports bidirectional communication, after adding the fax in [System Preferences], you can automatically obtain and set the device options information when you get the printer information from the Canon FAX Utility.
IMPORTANT
If you get the printer information using the procedure below, any options that you set manually afterward will not be applied to the driver. If you want to set the options manually, delete and add the fax again in [System Preferences], then set the options manually without getting the printer information.
1.
Open [System Preferences] → click [Print & Fax], [Print & Scan], or [Printers & Scanners].
2.
Select your device → click [Options & Supplies].
3.
Click [Utility] → [Open Printer Utility] to open the Canon FAX Utility.
NOTE
Depending on the printer model you are using, this function is not available. In this case, set the options manually (see "Manually Setting the Options").
4.
Click [Printer Information].
5.
Check the device information → click [OK].
If [Bidirectional] is displayed for [Communication Method], the options are automatically set.
If [Unidirectional] is displayed for [Communication Method], you must set the options manually (see "Manually Setting the Options").
NOTE
If the driver name displayed at the top of the [Printer Information] dialog box and the name displayed as [Name Retrieved from Printer] do not correspond correctly, you may not be able to use the device functions correctly. If the names do not correspond, delete the fax you have added in [System Preferences] and add it again (see "Adding a Fax").
